Torito de Pucará Painting Workshop
The Torito de Pucará is the little ceramic bull you see on rooftops all over the Andes — placed there for protection, fertility and good luck. In this daily workshop you paint your own, with a local host explaining where the tradition comes from and what each colour and symbol means.
What to expect
The workshop runs every afternoon from 4 to 6 PM in the courtyard of Black Llama Hostel, two minutes from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Groups stay small — usually four to ten people — so there is time to talk, ask questions and take your time with the brush.
You get a plain ceramic bull, acrylic paints, brushes and a reference sheet of traditional Pucará patterns. No painting experience needed — most people arrive convinced they cannot draw and leave with something they are genuinely proud of. Your bull is dry and ready to pack by the end of the session.
It is open to hostel guests and to anyone else in Cusco — walk-ins are welcome when there is space, but booking ahead is safer in high season.
